Maryland’s 5th Congressional District is home to thousands of veterans, active-duty service members, and military families—from Joint Base Andrews to NAS Patuxent River. As your next Congresswoman, Alexis Solis will be a fierce advocate for the brave men and women who have served this country and their families who continue to sacrifice alongside them.
Jobs and Workforce Transition
• Alexis will expand federal programs that connect veterans to meaningful careers, with a focus on high-demand fields like cybersecurity, infrastructure, healthcare, and clean energy.
• She supports direct partnerships with local employers, labor unions, and community colleges to provide certifications, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship training.
• She will ensure veterans receive priority in federal contracting opportunities, especially those starting or running small businesses.
Housing and Homelessness Prevention
• Alexis will increase funding for affordable housing and strengthen VA housing assistance programs to ensure no veteran is left unhoused.
• She will advocate for expanding supportive housing programs, especially for those struggling with trauma, mental health challenges, or substance use.
• She will work to ensure smooth transitions from military service to civilian housing, including rent and mortgage support when needed.
Healthcare and Mental Health
• Alexis will fight to improve VA care across the board, from reducing wait times to expanding access to specialists.
• She will champion mental health care, suicide prevention, and PTSD support services tailored to the needs of all veterans, including women and LGBTQ+ veterans.
• She supports full federal funding for mobile VA units in rural and underserved parts of MD-5.
Support for Military Families
• Alexis will work to expand child care assistance, spouse employment programs, and education benefits for military families.
• She will support increasing the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) to reflect the real cost of living in communities like Prince George’s and St. Mary’s Counties.
• She will fight for stronger legal protections against predatory lenders and scammers targeting military families.
Recognizing All Who Served
• Alexis supports full recognition and equal benefits for overlooked veteran groups, including Black veterans denied GI Bill benefits, veterans of color, immigrant veterans, and LGBTQ+ service members who were dishonorably discharged.
• She also supports legislation to automatically upgrade and review discharges for those impacted by discriminatory policies or mental health conditions.
