Dr. John Dahunsi is a distinguished and board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing comprehensive mental healthcare. In his private practice, he offers expert diagnosis, treatment, and support to a diverse patient population across the lifespan, from children aged four and up through adulthood. Dr. Dahunsi is also a sought-after mental health subject matter expert who continues to educate the public and professional communities through speaking engagements on critical topics like workplace violence and mental wellness. He continues to contribute academically in his role as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Dahunsi has cultivated a deep expertise in addressing the complex interplay between mental health disorders, substance use, and workplace violence. His current practice is built on a foundation of significant past contributions in high-stakes government and clinical environments.
Previously, Dr. Dahunsi brought his expertise to the federal level, serving as a Mental Health Nurse Consultant for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). In this role, he was instrumental in developing and implementing mental health guidelines in alignment with federal best practices. Prior to OSHA, he served at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a mental health clinical educator and an associate investigator for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) research program. There, he also led the Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT), training staff in advanced crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques.
Dr. Dahunsi’s rigorous academic background includes a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Mental Health (DNP), a Master of Science in Public Health (MPH) with a specialization in health policy and management, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). His extensive background in clinical care, policy development, crisis response, and research uniquely positions him as a leading voice in mental health advocacy and practice.
