Transportation

“Transportation is not just about roads and rails—it’s about access. Access to jobs, healthcare, education, and a better future.” — Alexis Solis

Our Vision
In Maryland’s 5th District—home to commuters, rural towns, and rapidly growing suburbs—we deserve a transportation system that works for everyone. Whether you’re riding the MARC train to D.C., waiting for a bus in Prince George’s, or navigating traffic in Charles or St. Mary’s County, Alexis Solis is committed to delivering federal investments that modernize infrastructure and increase mobility for all residents.

Invest in Public Transit
• Expand the MARC Train and Metro Access for Southern Maryland commuters, including extended hours and more reliable service to stations in Prince George’s and Charles Counties.
• Accelerate the Southern Maryland Rapid Transit (SMRT) project to create a dedicated light rail line connecting Waldorf, White Plains, and Branch Avenue Metro.
• Increase funding for rural and suburban bus systems so all residents—especially seniors and low-income workers—can access essential services.

Fix and Modernize Our Roads
• Prioritize federal funding for road improvements in rural and suburban corridors such as MD-210 (Indian Head Highway), MD-5, and Route 301 to ease congestion and reduce accidents.
• Ensure all new infrastructure projects are climate-resilient and support safe, multimodal use—including for bikers and pedestrians.

Support Green and Future-Ready Transportation
• Expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across MD-5, especially in underserved areas.
• Provide federal incentives for local school systems and municipalities to switch to electric buses and government fleets.
• Fund walkable, bike-friendly communities that reduce emissions and promote healthy living.

Transportation Equity
• Ensure transit deserts in communities like Brandywine, Baden, Indian Head, and parts of St. Mary’s receive equitable infrastructure investments.
• Fight for ADA-compliant transit so that disabled and elderly residents can travel freely and safely.
• Support youth and student transit pass programs so young people can access school, work, and civic opportunities.

Guiding Principle
Every community deserves safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options. Alexis Solis believes your zip code should not determine your ability to get to work, get to care, or get ahead. In Congress, she’ll push for federal transportation dollars to flow equitably into every corner of MD-5—from Temple Hills to Lexington Park.

Join Alexis Solis in the fight for federal infrastructure that connects, empowers, and uplifts all Marylanders.
