Racial Equity & Equal Justice

“True justice means everyone—no matter their zip code, background, or skin color—has equal protection under the law, equal opportunity in life, and a voice in the decisions that shape their community.” — Alexis Solis

Our Vision
In Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, we believe racial equity isn’t just a talking point—it’s a commitment. A commitment to dismantling systemic barriers that disproportionately impact Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian, and other marginalized communities across Prince George’s, Charles, St. Mary’s, and Calvert Counties.

Alexis Solis is running for Congress to deliver real solutions that move us toward equity in education, healthcare, housing, the economy, and justice.

Education Equity
•  Fully fund Title I schools to ensure every child—regardless of neighborhood—has access to quality teachers, resources, and safe learning environments.
•  Support culturally responsive curricula and mental health resources in schools, especially for students of color.
•  As a proud graduate of Bowie State University, an HBCU, Alexis has always been a strong advocate for historically Black colleges and universities—fighting for federal investments, research funding, and job placement programs that support HBCU students and alumni.
•  Create federal pipelines from HBCUs into public service, STEM fields, and the private sector.

Healthcare Access
•  Close racial disparities in maternal health, chronic disease, and mental health through expanded funding and Black-led community clinics.
•  Increase federal support for mobile health units and Medicaid expansion in underserved areas of MD-5.

Housing Justice
•  Fight redlining and discriminatory lending practices by strengthening HUD’s Fair Housing enforcement.
•  Invest in affordable housing and homeownership grants for first-generation buyers in historically excluded neighborhoods.
•  Expand rental assistance and support anti-displacement protections for families in rapidly gentrifying areas.

Economic Empowerment
•  Increase federal contracting access for minority-owned businesses and ensure timely payment for services.
•  Support a living wage, paid family leave, and strong labor protections, especially for Black and brown essential workers.
•  Champion community wealth-building models such as cooperatives and Black-led development projects.

Fair & Accountable Policing
•  Establish national standards for police use of force, independent investigations, and transparency.
•  End qualified immunity and invest in non-police crisis response teams for mental health emergencies.
•  Fund reentry programs and expungement initiatives to help returning citizens rebuild their lives.

Voting Rights & Representation
•  Protect voting rights by restoring the Voting Rights Act and expanding access to early voting and vote-by-mail.
•  Fight voter suppression efforts and ensure language access for all communities in the electoral process.

Guiding Principle
Racial equity isn’t about handouts. It’s about fairness, dignity, and removing barriers that have been in place for generations. As your representative, Alexis Solis will fight for policies that lift all communities while centering those most historically left behind.

Join Alexis Solis in dismantling systemic barriers across communities within Prince George’s, Charles, St. Mary’s, and Calvert Counties.
