Maryland’s 5th Congressional District is rich in talent, diversity, and potential. But too many families are being priced out, left behind, or overlooked. From Prince George’s to Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s Counties, we need an economy that works for working people. Alexis Solis is committed to delivering federal resources that uplift local workers, small businesses, and underserved communities, not just corporations.
Create Good-Paying, Local Jobs
• Alexis will fight for federal investments in infrastructure, green energy, healthcare, and education that create union-supported jobs across MD-5.
• She will expand job training programs in partnership with HBCUs, trade schools, and community colleges like Prince George’s Community College and the College of Southern Maryland.
• Her “Hire Local, Build Local” initiative will ensure that federal contracts prioritize hiring local workers and using local businesses.
Support Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs
• Alexis will cut red tape and expand access to federal capital and grants for small and minority-owned businesses, especially in underserved areas like Brandywine, Indian Head, and Lexington Park.
• She will champion the creation of a Small Business Innovation Accelerator to support new ventures in clean tech, healthcare, and logistics.
• She will also fight for fair access to federal procurement contracts and ensure timely payment for small vendors and contractors.
Raise Wages and Support Working Families
• Alexis supports raising the federal minimum wage to at least $17 per hour, indexed to inflation and regional cost of living.
• She will expand paid family leave, affordable childcare, and caregiver support to help families stay economically secure.
• She will also stand with workers fighting wage theft and support the right to unionize.
Build a Future-Ready Workforce
• Alexis will invest in clean energy jobs and support transition programs for workers in traditional energy industries.
• She will expand apprenticeship and credentialing programs in fields like cybersecurity, biotech, and advanced manufacturing.
• She will ensure returning citizens have access to job opportunities and career development.
Close the Racial Wealth Gap
• Alexis supports creating federal baby bonds, expanding first-generation homebuyer assistance, and advancing student loan relief.
• She will ensure fair access to banking, credit, and investment for Black and Latino communities.
• She will advocate for increased funding for Community Development Financial Institutions in areas that need it most.
